First Cold

Our little girl has her first cold :o( I was dreading the day and it is here! We've been around a lot of kiddie-poos lately and I just knew it was a matter of time before I got another "Mommy experience" to put in my backpack. She's been a trooper so far. She started getting "boogery" about 2 days ago. Last night I was a 'nervous nelly' going in to check on her like every 2 hours to make sure she was breathing OK. I felt like I had a newborn again! She has a little cough and has been sneezing. Her nose is runny and she has a low grade fever :o(

I took her to the pediatrician this afternoon. The fun thing is, is we got to weigh her. She weighs 11 lbs. and 13.5 oz. She's almost 12 lbs. She's in the 25%-50% for her age as of today. We go back on the 20th for her 4 month check up and shots. But today, her ears looked good, her lungs sounded good, and her throat was just a tiny bit on the pink side from the yucky drainage. The doctor heard her cough and sneeze and gave us our instructions on how best to care for her. We're using saline solution and the aspirator (booger sucker) to help with her congestion. I have the humidifier going and we have children's tylenol in case her fever goes up a little.

It just makes my heart sad to know she doesn't feel good. She's still in good spirits, smiling, cooing, and eating well. She has been taking her naps today and I hope to have a good night tonight. McKenna was fine...it was me who was the basket case ;o) I know we just have to let it run its course...it's just not fun...it's actually quite pitiful :o( I also know it's the first of many colds to come, so we'll all act like big girls (and Dave will act like a big boy) and we'll get through this. Say a prayer for her (and us) if you think about it.
